A Brief  Encounter

He stood to the side as I embraced his wife

You’re so grown up she said. How old are you now?

Seventeen. - in a couple of months

You were just a child it seems like only yesterday

Yes I know; I said smiling and pulled away from her embrace

He stood to the side avoiding my space

Do you remember the times you stayed with us? she asked

I hesitated; this moment unrehearsed

Her face so eager for the child to surface

Then I smiled and turned my head to address his stare

Yes I remember… everything. I said
