If I Never Leave a History
There are times I wonder if time stood still
would I be safe from tomorrow
Will I stay in one spot; or maybe not
maybe tomorrow is better
Fear to fall yet drawn to dare
warning your getting too close to the edge
Who is this stranger staring back at me
where have I gone I don’t remember leaving…
This haven of history repeating itself
better the devil I know
And just when I thought I had it all figured out
my thoughts wandered another path
and the din of the crowd won’t shut them out
Why do I try to put the pieces in place
when the windows view has changed its face
I'm not the same as yesterday - this day is history
How would I know how to forgive in my mind
if I never leave yesterday behind
and how would I know where it is I have to go
or where I want to stay
There’d be no point to dreaming a dream
How would I ever learn about me
how would I know how good it could be
I would never have another memory to remember
If I never leave a history behind
