Rules of Misery
The most powerful and enduring influence on our spirit is the power of the spoken word, it can be used as weapon or soothe. We have developed a variety of quips that are amusing and satirically appropriate to feed our souls and stave off the puzzling aspects to life's unpredictable's. However it has become part and parcel of our vocabulary , to utter certain one liners due to their seemingly wise content without any consideration of their inference; nor do we stop to consider the way in which they may be received, yet we use them as a means of comfort. The rules of misery
‘This had to happen, to make you a better person'
Do you really expect me to stand still while you pull me down in order to build you up? I am at pains to understand how anyone can imagine it’s utterance would draw comfort, and cant help but think of the Book of Job when wondering from what source this rule of misery was created. 'This had to happen to make you a better person' Did it? really? Now there’s an incentive to remain a bitch if I ever heard one, because if you’re on the same planet as me , the last time I checked all the bastards of this world seem to reap benefits from being one; of course I know that isn’t absolutely true - sort of.
“Life wasn’t meant to be easy”
Excuse me whilst I indulge in minor debate
“So, what you are saying is, my life was meant to be difficult” “No life in general was just not meant to be easy ; that’s all.” “So it is meant to be difficult.” “Well no, not exactly, but we all have to go through hardship in life.” “Have to - do we? “Well yes, we do and mine isn’t “ “Isn’t what?” “Easy; my life isn’t easy, I have to work very hard at it” “Oh I see… so… tell me again?… how does that constitute life wasn’t meant to be easy?”
"This will hurt me more than it will you"
Gee thanks for that
"You have to be cruel to be kind"
- and I feel a whole lot better , now that I know why you are causing me pain.
What twisted puppy came up with these little gems to justify a method of meting out discipline.
"Love hurts"
No it doesn't , its the lack of it that causes the pain.
